   The Basic Rider Course (BRC)

The BRC is a 15 hour course of instruction and teaches the novice student the basics of motorcycle operation, effective braking, turning skills and obstacle avoidance, as well as safe riding strategies. The five hours of classroom and ten hours of “on-cycle” instruction, under controlled range conditions make up the curriculum. The skills taught in the BRC are those skills needed in every day riding situations. Students will be taught skills normally learned after several years of trial and error riding. Throughout the course, students will be evaluated and coached by trained instructors.

Successful completion of the Basic Rider Course prepares students for a Commonwealth of Virginia motorcycle endorsement on their Virginia Driver’s License with exemption from obtaining a learner’s permit and the requirement for taking the Virginia DMV written and riding skills test

Due to the demanding nature of the course, 20 hours may be required to administer the program with time being allowed for breaks and lunch. Class size is limited to no more than 12 students. Depending on class size and/or Instructor needs we will have sufficient Virginia Rider Training Program certified RiderCoaches for each and every class.  For the classroom portion, the student must bring to class, pen, and one highlighter. The BRC program provides helmets and motorcycles (125cc to 350cc), furnished by area dealers who support the program through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Loan Program, for student to use. If you have your own helmet, you may prefer to bring it to the range and use it on the range. However, all personal helmets must be DOT approved and MUST be either a full face or ¾ helmet. Half and shorty helmets are not allowed on any VRTP range. You MUST use the program motorcycles for the BRC. No personal motorcycles will be allowed
